Choosing an Agent
Weather buying or selling, shop around and verify. Ask for references and then check them, use the internet by doing a “google” search on the agent’s name, and look them up on social networking sites as a great vehicle for further looking into their credentials. Chances are you’ll be working closely with your agent for a few months, so treat the process of choosing an agent the same as you would if you were to hire an employee for your own business.
Choosing a Mortgage Broker
Once you've selected your agent ask for a few recommendations for a mortgage broker. Also, ask why they are recommending each person and be assured you can work with anyone you like. Ask each of your mortgage candidates to provide a good faith estimate and then ask your REALTOR to help you compare each estimate. You’ll want your mortgage broker to have the opportunity to earn your business with a combination of a competitive estimate, solid past performance and someone you feel comfortable with as you’ll be sharing a lot of personal financial information with them.
Choosing a Home Inspector
As with hiring a mortgage broker, your REALTOR is a valuable resource for your home inspector as well. Remember to inquire why they recommend each person. A home inspector will need to be experienced, properly licensed, have the ability to communicate well using a written report. As with any person you hire, asking for references and checking them out on Google is good practice.
